Wet 'n' Wild Eyeshadow Mini-Haul

Hi everyone!  I've recently been very bad- which is VERY GOOD for you!  I've been shopping at my local drug store (Walgreens), and found some amazing Wet 'n' Wild eye shadows- and I want to tell you all about them!

I have recently acquired 4 new WnW shadow sets- two at my Lash Bash (read all about that awesome night HERE), and two on my recent shopping spree.

Wet 'n' Wild, despite being a pain to type, is a really wonderful drug store brand.  If you haven't tried it since the 90's (or before), they have reformulated their products, and many are on par with prestige brands- this is by far my favorite drug store eye shadow brand!  While there was a dud in the bunch (at least for me), these shadows went on super smooth, lasted a long time, and didn't crease.  At this price point ($2.99 for the trios), I just don't see how you could go wrong!

The Fergie palettes I've only seen at Walgreens, but they are probably available at other stores also and I've just not noticed them.  I've seen Wet 'n' Wild eye shadow trios pretty much every where- the grocery store, WalMart, Walgreens, Dollar General- I'd be willing to bet that if you looked for these the next time you go shopping anywhere they sell general merchandise, you'll find them!

All swatches are done on both bare skin, and over NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk.

Ok, enough hype- here's what you came here for- pictures and in depth review of the only average variety.

Wet N Wild Silent Treatment Trio

This lovely trio was a prize from the White Elephant gift exchange at my Lash bash.  This is super pretty, and went on really smoothly for me.

Swatches of Silent Treatment

I used this mini eye palette to create a pretty, neutral eye look with a bit of drama:

I definitely won't be "silent" about this trio- it is absolutely beautiful and definitely a win for me!

Wet 'n' Wild Spoiled Brat Trio
This trio was also a prize from my Lash Bash- these pretty colors look like they would create a super awesome dramatic eye!  Unfortunately, the pink shade didn't do really well for me.

Swatches of Spoiled Brat
They swatched ok, but the color didn't transfer well to the eyes.  I use this for Tiny Love's Halloween look! (She's a Monster High doll, named Draculaura.)

Spoiled Brat by Wet 'n' Wild

This trio isn't all bad- the black and the silver are super pigmented.  The silver shade is super soft and creamy- I will definitely get some good use out of this!

Wet 'N' Wild Fergie Collection in Desert Festival

This is a gorgeous palette for fall!  Ipsy sent this out to some subscribers, but not to me.  I hopped over to Walgreens, and picked this pretty set up.  I love the oranges and browns in this palette, and they are wonderfully pigmented!

Swatches of Desert Festival (there really is five colors there- the one all the way to the left is kind of hard to see in this picture- sorry!!)
Paired with purple liner, this palette blends beautifully for a pretty Halloween-inspired look that can be played up for nights or down for daytime.

Desert Festival by Wet 'n' Wild

This is the one palette that was more that $3- it retails for $4.99, but I found a peely coupon on mine at my local Walgreens, for $1 off!

Wet 'n' Wild Walking on Eggshells Trio
This is probably the most popular WnW trio out there- Walking on Eggshells is a gorgeous collection of neutrals to make a perfect "no makeup-makeup" look.

Swatches of Walking on Eggshells
These shadows were super velvety and creamy- on par with Urban Decay, in my opinion.  Super pigmented, and ultra blendable, this palette is definitely the star of my mini-haul!

Walking on Eggshells by Wet 'n' Wild

If you don't already own this trio, what are you waiting for?!  The cream and pink are ALMOST dupes for the pink and cream in the Peek-A-Bright Eyes kit from Benefit Cosmetics; the brown is much warmer than the one in the kit, but it was very easy to duplicate the look that this prestige kit provides. I just love this soft, pretty look.  It makes my blue eyes "pop"- which I could show you if I had been smart enough to take a picture with my eyes...open.  Insert "Average" joke here.

Until next time, my lovelies- stay Average!

October 2013 Ipsy (MyGlam) Review

Hello my beautiful friends!  My Ipsy bag arrived last week, and I can't wait to share my thoughts with you!

Not familiar with Ipsy?  Ipsy is a beauty subscription service that sends out 4-5 full size or deluxe size items each month, for just $10, shipping included, or $14.95 if you are in Canada.  If you would like to try Ipsy out, won't you consider using my referral link?  I get points for free goodies, and you get good karma.  Everyone wins!

 The envelope.
These pink envelopes seriously make my day.  Seeing this in my mailbox is definitely a happy moment!
First look
The first peek inside the envelope is always the best.  I spy a white bag and an insert card!
The Insert Card
This month's theme is The Art of Beauty.  I really like the concept of this theme.
 The discounts
Ipsy is always awesome, because they work with brands to get us subscribers awesome deals.  This month looks like it's got lots of great codes available to us!

October's bag
This month's bag is white, with a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson written on it in pink, swirly letters.  While this bag isn't to my particular liking, Tween Angel loves it, so I will likely gift it to her.

Inside the bag
The liner of the bag is plain pink, and very nice.  This month's bag feels thicker than the usual bag, and a bit more durable.
Zoya Nail Polish in Mason, 0.5 fl oz (full size), retail $8.00, available HERE.  Discount code IPSYZ3 gets you a buy 2 get 1 free deal and a free Remove+, until 11/10/13, continental US only, can't be combined with other offers.
The first item I found in my bag is one that everyone received,  a Zoya nail polish.  There were three shades that were sent out this month; I received Mason, a pretty purple.

 Swatch of Mason- two coats
I really love this color- I wear a LOT of purple, and dark shades don't scare me. I will say that this stained my nails a bit, and I did have some problems with chipping.  However, I had a blast creating my new favorite nail look- ombre nails- with it.  This shade is just so pretty, it suits me to a T.
GRADE: 4.5/5

H2O Plus Hydrating Treatment, 10mL (deluxe sample size), retail value $7.20 (full size is 50mL, $36.00), available HERE.  Discount code IPSY13 will get you 25% off any purchase, until 11/15/13, US only, not valid on gift certs or prior purchases, can't be combined with any other offer.
I really love face treatments, and I was excited to receive the H2O Plus hydrating treatment.  This moisturizer goes on pretty sticky, but does a nice job.  I have a couple of dry patches on my face, and after using this, they were not noticeable.  I will say that because it is sticky, I would only use this at night. The vibrant blue color is a bit daunting, but it goes on clear.  I probably won't repurchase this, but it will definitely get used.
GRADE: 3.5/5

Nourish Organic Deeply Nourishing Coconut & Argan Body Lotion, 30mL (deluxe sample size), retail value $1.25 (full size is 8 oz, $9.99), available HERE.  Discount code Nourish20 will get you 20% off your Nourish Organic purchase until 11/10/13, one time use only, not valid in Canada (boo!), cannot be combined with other offers.
I love lotion, and I love coconuts. While another lotion was sent to some other subscribers, I was interested to try this.  I opened up my tube, and put some on.  I was immediately puzzled by the scent- this does NOT smell like coconuts.  It took me a while to pinpoint the scent, but I think it smells like black pepper.  It is definitely a weird smell for a lotion, and while it is definitely NOT greasy, it also didn't leave my hands feeling moisturized.  At all.  Also, my tube wasn't properly sealed at the top- I have to be careful when I squeeze it so that I don't have lotion coming out of both ends!  I won't be repurchasing this, but I will use it up.
GRADE 2/5

Ofra Lipgloss Plumper in Sultry, 10mL (full size), retail $12.95, available HERE.  Discount code ipsy30 will get you 30% off any purchase from Ofra, until 11/14/13, can't be combined, only valid in the US.
I only received ONE makeup item this month, and it was this lip gloss.  I love me some makeup, so I was sad that I didn't receive enough products to create a look, but that's the way subscription lotteries go!
Swatch of Ofra Lip gloss in Sultry
This plumping gloss went on a bit thick, and after a few moments, I could feel the tingle of the plumping agent. I don't think this worked really well as a plumping gloss, but the color is beautiful for fall.  The packaging seemed a little on the "lower end" side- squeeze tubes don't go a long way to impress me.  The shade definitely makes up for the packaging, and it stayed on for a good long while. If you are sensitive to peppermint, the plumping agent, or don't like the tingle sensation that plumping glosses sometimes have, I would avoid this gloss, but if those things aren't a concern for you, I think it's worth a try.
GRADE: 4/5

Style Sexy Hair Spray Clay texturizing spray, 1.4oz (travel size), retail $8.00 (full size is 44 oz, $18.95), available HERE.  Discount code 105339 will get you $5 off $25 purchase or more of Sexy Hair products, until 11/15/13, cannot be combined, one time use only.
This item was a real puzzler to me.  Spray clay?  What exactly am I do to with this? I tried this in my hair wet to add volume and texture, and it didn't do anything at all, really. I tried this on dry hair, and it did add a bit of texture and volume, but it didn't do anywhere near as well as my Sea Salt Spray (from Not Your Mother's).  I will see if the hubster can use it.
GRADE: 3/5 (probably great for some, just not for me!)

Ipsy has really begun to randomize their bags, based on their IpsyMatch program, to match items better to subscribers.  I'm not 100% convinced that this works, but for the most part, I have received items that I enjoyed testing out.  This month, however, I was really sad not to receive some of the other items that were sent out.  I changed up my beauty quiz, and hopefully this will change what I receive in the future.

Wet 'n' Wild Fergie Eyeshadow Palette in Desert Festival, full size (0.19 oz), retail $4.99, available HERE (or at your local Walgreens or other drugstore).  No discount code this time! (Swatches coming soon- I HAD to buy this :))

Well, that's EVERYTHING that was sent out this month- here's a pretty picture of what I received:

October 2013 Ipsy My Glam Bag
All in all, this month was just "okay" for me.  I've had better bags, and there WERE some things that I would have NOT liked to receive, and I DIDN'T get those items.  I'll definitely keep Ipsy another month, and hope that changing my quiz will create me an awesome bag, as both September and October were just "meh".  November is my BIRTHDAY month, so I'm hoping for a fabulous birthday month from Ipsy!

Wet 'n Wild Mascara Clearance JACKPOT!

Oh, my beautiful and OnlyAverage friends, I just HAD to share with you the AWESOME deals I picked up over the last couple days!

My oldest was invited to a birthday party at a local church's roller skating ring (Yep, you read that right.  That's how we roll here in Lower Slower Delaware), and I was a bit early picking her up, so I ducked into the Dollar General next door.  I was shopping for false lashes (D-Gen sells them for $1.50, made from 100% human hair, by the way), and while I was milling around, I saw a clearance rack.

If you are anything like me at all, then you view these racks as the Holy Grail of shopping- almost as good as Triple Coupon day!

The clearance rack had a sign that all items were an extra 60% off, and it was filled with gift sets.  I picked up a cute Strawberry Shortcake lotion/lip balm set for my tiny one, and a Stetson cologne set for the hubby (lotion was originally $2, Stetson, $8).  If you are following along, my total out of pocket for these two things and my 2 packets of lashes is currently .80 (lotion/balm), plus 3.20 (Stetson), plus $3 (lashes).  Not too shabby, if I toot my own horn.

And then, I saw the major JACKPOT.
Wet 'n Wild Lash Out! Eye Collection

Why, yes, that IS a box of FOUR travel size mascaras, plus a waterproof eyeliner with a smudger!  See that price sticker on the corner?  This was a great deal at only $4- and the 60% clearance sale makes it a JACKPOT- $2.40.  Except it rang up for LESS THAN THAT- $1.20.  I'll repeat.  $1.20 for FOUR mascaras (two are waterproof, two are not) and an eyeliner!  Naturally, I bought all that they had.  Seriously, who wouldn't??

Mascara JACKPOT

Mascara JACKPOT
Wet 'n Wild MegaPlump mascaras, one waterproof, one not; each .19 fl oz; full size tubes retail around $3.99 for .27 oz- this makes the retail value of each of these tubes around $2.74

My lashes are super tiny, so I'm thrilled to try the MegaPlump mascaras out!  I love trial size mascaras because they last me about 3 months.  3 months is how long you are supposed to keep a mascara before throwing it out, no matter how much product is left.  Is this a coincidence?  I don't think so!  Why buy a full size product, when a travel size is available, just to throw away the leftover product?! (I also save mascara wands, disinfect them and use them as spoolies.  What??!!)

The regular formula's code is C893A; the waterproof formula's code is C894A.

The color for these mascaras is Very Black.  Love it!

Wet 'n Wild MegaLength mascaras, one waterproof, one not: each 0.15 fl oz; full size tubes retail around around $2.99 for 0.27 oz- this makes the retail value of these tubes around $1.68.

I am really excited about this mascara too- the wand is really lovely- it's the one with the little plastic points on it, instead of the bristles.  These seem to work very well for me.

The color code for the waterproof formula is C899; the code for the regular formula is C892A.

These are also in Very Black- perfect for wear anytime!

Wet 'n Wild H2O-Proof Blending Eye pencil in 791P, Black Chrome, 0.033 oz. Retail is around $0.79

I also received an H2O-Proof Blending Eye Pencil.  I have always used WnW as my go-to for quick and easy eyeliners- they work so well, are inexpensive, and have great staying power.  Although I've never used the H2O- proof line before, I'm excited to try it- it swatched really well for me.

My FAVORITE part of this item set is...it's Cruelty-free!  I try very hard to purchase only cruelty-free items.  I know a few not-CF items sneak into my home, but it's really on accident and not on purpose.  Cheers for WnW for being Cruelty free!!

That's about it for my Wet 'n Wild amazing Jackpot- definitely above average!

Financial recap:
Out of pocket: $2.40 (2 sets of products)
Retail price: $8 (according to the boxes)
Retail value: $19.27

Whoo Hoo!

So, tell me, have you found something amazing on a clearance rack before?  Have you tried these mascara's out yet?  Leave a comment, and let me know your thoughts!

Until next time, stay average!  I love you all!

PS- Did you know I have a facebook page now??!!  Go HERE to like Only Average Mom on the 'book, and I'll let you know all about everything that is going on here, plus other little updates, things too small to post.  Thank you!
